Volunteer to serve as member of North Suffolk Mental Health Association’s 
 

Human Rights Committee!

The Human Rights Committee is a volunteer advisory board that ensures that North Suffolk Mental Health Association’s programs promote and protect the human and civil rights of all persons served.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
v  Attending bi-monthly Human Rights Committee Meetings (held on the third Wednesday of every other month from 6-8:30pm)
v  Reviewing complaints and allegations of client mistreatment or rights violations
v  Monitoring the agency investigation and complaint resolution process
v  Monitoring limitations imposed on an individual’s movement or human rights (ex. involuntary medication, privileges restrictions, house rules, individual funds)
v  Monitoring and reviewing authorization and use of behavior modification interventions proposed by program staff
v  Reviewing reports of various quality management activities to ensure inclusion of human rights issues
v  Reviewing and monitoring agency methods used to inform staff and clients of human rights policies and procedures
v  Reviewing and making recommendations regarding proposed and existing policies and practices relevant to client rights
v  Visiting program sites annually
v  Providing guidance and support to program Human Rights Officers
v  Ensuring that Human Rights Officers are fulfilling position responsibilities
