This past Monday, November 23rd, five demonstrators were shot by alleged white supremacists near the 4th police precinct in North Minneapolis. Protesters have been gathering there daily since the recent police killing of Jamar Clark, an unarmed 24 year old African American man, which has sparked massive outrage from the community. Police claim he reached for a gun, but numerous eyewitnesses have stated that he was shot in the head execution style, while handcuffed.

The shooting of these protesters did not happen in a vacuum. There is a far right wing, white supremacist, pushback against the growing movement against police brutality and institutionalized racism. The police have a deep history of colluding with white supremacist groups like the Klu Klux Klan. With Western governments like the UK, France, and the US beating the war drums in light of recent terrorist attacks in France we must stand in opposition to more war abroad and focus on the terrorism happening here. Recent reports have found that a US citizen is 58 times more likely to be killed by a police officer than a terrorist.

The murder of Jamar Clark, Tamir Rice in Cleveland, Laquan McDonald in Chicago, and many others highlight the everyday terrorism poor and working people, particularly of color face. The white supremacist terrorism from college campuses to churches, and the streets, must be combatted through massive action by the popular masses. We will not be intimidated in the righteous struggle against police terror, white supremacy, and institutionalized racism. We say police brutality is terrorism and is part and parcel of enforcing the racist status quo.

We call upon all defenders of democratic rights and social justice to defend the constitutional rights of protestors in Minneapolis to exercise their freedom of speech and right to assemble without out fear of physical violence. We demand the prosecution of Minneapolis police officers Mike Ringgenberg and Dustin Schwarze to the fullest extent of the law and swift prosecution of the racist vigilantes who shot protestors on November 23!

The Cuban Revolution has always been a staunch supporter of Black liberation in the US. Through determined resistance this small island has stood up to the dictates of US imperialism for over a half century. They have provided safe harbor and political asylum for many Black militant leaders such as Assata Shakur, an icon often quoted in chants at protests against police brutality and racism across the country today. Cuba has also helped many national liberation struggles throughout Africa. The struggle against institutionalized racism was one of the pillars of the Cuban Revolution.

Come to an important exchange about the current and historical battle against racist oppression and the experiences in Cuba and the US and how these struggles are interelated. Hear a panel of participants in both struggles.

Join the Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston for the inaugural release of the 2015 State of Black Massachusetts!

This year, the Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts has decided to expand upon its State of Black Boston report to the entire state. The State of Black Massachusetts will highlight the progress and/or lack thereof within Boston' s urban communities as it concerns health, economics, and education compared to the rest of Massachusetts. This report provides captivating research and data about the disparities that exist between primarily African-Americans and others of color and their Caucasian counterparts. This is a call to action that is meant to engage and motivate all of Massachusetts, including corporate, civic and elected officials, foundations, cob's and the funding community to play a more proactive role in the cultivation of this great state, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion and socioeconomic standing.

A Confederacy of Dunces is adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher from the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by John Kennedy Toole, directed by David Esbjornson (Guess Who's Coming to Dinner and All My Sons) and featuring Nick Offerman of NBC's "Parks and Recreation." Nick Offerman stars as the larger-than-life character Ignatius J. Reilly: overweight, arrogant, eccentric, and still living with his mother in 1960s New Orleans. Called the Don Quixote of the French Quarter, Ignatius has a singular outlook on life. His farcical odyssey includes a riot in a department store and a raid on a strip club, and stints working at a pants factory and as a hot dog vendor. A Confederacy of Dunces is a hilarious, wild ride, filled with colorful characters and comic misadventures. The Washington Post says A Confederacy of Dunces is, "An epic comedy. A rumbling, roaring avalanche of a book."

With Dr. Peniel Joseph, author of Stokely: A Life , Chuck Turner and Representative Byron Rushing, who both knew Stokely. Turner worked with Stokely in 1968 while forming the Black United Front. Joseph is Professor of History at Tufts University and founding Director of the Center for the Study of Race and Democray. Chuck Turner is a long time community organizer and activist. Rep. Rushing has served in the Ma State legislature since 1982.

When 14-year-old Hirut is abducted in her rural village’s tradition of kidnapping women for marriage, she fights back, accidentally killing her captor and intended husband. Local law demands a death sentence for Hirut, but Meaza, a tough and passionate lawyer from a women’s legal aide practice, steps in to fight for her. With both Hirut’s life and the future of the practice at stake, the two women must make their case for self-defense against one of Ethiopia’s oldest and most deeply-rooted traditions.
