Seeking Artists

Lembu Art Sale and Reception

Lembu Real Estate is seeking artist to feature in an upcoming art sale and reception.

Our goals for this art opening:
 1.      Support local businesses:  As a business founded and based in Central Square, we decided last year to hold an annual art opening to highlight our Cambridge roots while showcasing and supporting local artists.  This year, we also want to give back to our community by partnering with the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center (BARCC), a local Central Square-based non-profit that provides a really important service. A percentage of all sales will go to benefit the center.
 2.      Appreciate our customers: Our client base is fairly large and very loyal--as a way to say thank you to our clients and to show them that we appreciate them, we want to use this event to offer them an opportunity to visit with us, and to also educate them on local art and local social justice issues.  We’ll be providing an opportunity for them to purchase local art and enjoy good local beer and cheese while supporting BARCC.

What we’re looking for:
1.      Would like to have 3-4 artists showcase their paintings or photographs.  We are looking to try to sell as much art as possible.
2.      5% donation of proceeds of art sales to BARCC.  The remaining 95% goes to the artist whose work is purchased. Lembu does not keep any percentage of the sales.
3.      Artists may invite up to 5 guests each
4.      Please submit photos of your artwork by January 21, 2015, we will select artists and the work byJanuary 22.
5.      After selection, we will need an artist photo/biography and a few sentences about each selected work of art by January 26 in order to complete the professionally designed booklet we will be distributing to visitors.  This booklet will highlight all the artists and their work, as well as the various vendors supporting the opening (Pretty Things, Fiore di Nonno, Group Project Design) and of course BARCC.

What we’re setting up:
 1.      Art opening, 3pm-6pm, Saturday, February 21, 2015.
2.      The owners of Pretty Things Beer (www.prettybeer.com) and Fiore di Nonno (www.amazingmozzarella.com) will be present and will host beer and cheese tastings.
3.      Due to the number of customers we have, we are making this an invitation-only event.  Last year we were standing room only.
4.      We will MC the event--when a painting sells, we will make an announcement for everyone to hear, clink our glasses, and celebrate the artist and the buyer.
5.      We will have Lembu people and artists wearing name cards to it’s easier for visitors to know who’s who.
6.      We’d like to help sales as much as possible--we’re open to any ideas that would facilitate the sale of artwork, including having one of our staff walk around with a credit card machine and art reservation contracts if that would help.
7.      This is a one night event, however, we are happy to keep the art up for one month, and provide showings by appointment should that be helpful to the artist.  Generally our office staff is available10am-3pm, but accommodations can be made with enough notice.
8.      We do not have insurance for the art, the art will be shown at your own risk, however, the building is secured in the evenings.
9.      We have professionally installed picture moldings with hooks and wires, but we request that artists install their own art.  Our office staff can assist with the installation and with whatever is needed.

About our space:
We have picture moldings/rails with enough space for 14 large works of art.  Last year when we did an art opening, some artists had their work laid out vertically (we have 9’ ceilings) which made for more space.

The space is basically one large conference room, a hallway, and another room.

Directions and a photo of our conference room are at www.lemburealestate.com/directions.  This is an old photo, the picture railings are not installed here--they are installed about 3” below the ceiling line.
