Newton Open Studios April6-7

NOS is 180 local artists creating over 50 ''pop-up'' exhibit/sales all across town, in their homes, their studios and gardens. Everyone's invited to this crazy quilt event - this once-a-year window into the artistic life of Newton. They've attracted a wonderful array of both new talent and returning favorites. Check out John Chilton - a first-time photographer with NOS this year showing stunning black and white images. In the same group, you'll also find returning artist Vicky McKenna - a photographer who has garnered recognition from the Danforth museum and area art associations. Long-time NOS artist Andrea Kemler's saturated and exquisite still-life photographs will be in the same location as newcomer Fiona Stoltz's equally exquisite silk scarves. Fascinating and seductive paintings and jewelry by newcomer Wendy Wolf will be on display in her West Newton studio, right down the road from Art at the Villa's houseful of master NOS veterans.
The fresh new work at NOS is by no means confined to new artists. Donna June, who has been painting abstract designs on pottery and furniture for years, has broken away from the object surface, and spread her designs on canvas, to celebrate their pulsing, chaotic precision in their own right. Linda Salter, master practitioner of traditional sumi ink painting, now also has branched out to flung ink and abstract compositions incorporating gold leaf. The list goes on, 170 artists strong.

1pm. -, 60 locations throughout Newton, Newton, MA.
