The Humanist Hub
30 JFK St, Fl 4th, Cambridge, Massachusetts 02138
This Sunday, we're excited to host DJ Rekha -- the founder of Basement Bhangra in New York City; NPR producer, curator, educator and activist; and DJ to President Obama and Wyclef Jean.
With its roots in Punjabi folk music, bhangra actively integrates popular cultures and instruments into an ever-changing and adapting world-music experience. What can our community learn from this cross-cultural exchange of art? Rekha will discuss her experiences as the pioneer of Punjabi and bhangra music in North America, and the challenges of keeping the music, and her dance floor, a secular space.
Sunday, Oct 25, 1:30-3:00pm, 30 JFK Street (with music to follow the program.)
