Afropop Night has taken flight! We will have our next concert at The Lily Pad (for the first time) on Sept 17th!
Come join us!

Afropop Night is a series of concerts (organized by Christiana Athena with the support of Marc Amigone) featuring Boston's local African music and dance community, plus national and international Afropop bands. It is a night for excellent music, unity, dancing & positivity. Come share the love and support the artists and music!

M'bolo: plays mbalax, the high energy music of Senegal. "M'bolo" means "together" in Wolof, a language spoken in Senegal. Cheikh Ngom, lead singer and songwriter, was born and raised in Kaolack, a city on the coast of Senegal. He has been singing, dancing, and playing sabar drums all his life. He has performed throughout Africa, Europe and the U.S. Dillon Zahner, Galen Gregory Willett, and Beza "bayz" Gebre, M'bolo's guitarist, bass player, and drummer met at Boston's Berklee College of Music. They share a love of West African rhythms. When they heard Cheikh perform at a Cambridge Club, they joined him and formed M'bolo. M'bolo has been performing for about three years.

Opposite People:
Opposite People play a blend of Afrobeat, Funk and Bollywood and gravitate toward performing community events in and around Boston. The band was formed to play Friday Night Traffic Jam in Hyde Park in 2008, an outdoor evening music series. Initially the group played Fela, Antibalas, Budos and Daktaris jams and then expanded its repertoire to include funky songs from 1960s reggae, Bollywood, 1970's Ethiopia and even a few originals. The band includes horn and percussion section along with drums, bass and guitar. It's laid back, funky and improvisational.

DJ Afro Marc:
DJ Afro-Marc is best known for his work on the Afrobeat Blog and Afro-Marc Podcast, but also has a history of moving dancefloors across the globe. Blending influences and sounds from across the African diaspora, Afro-Marc finds the continuity funky music has to offer.
