Reducing Summer Melt: Financial Aid Steps to Success

Beginner Level
By now, many of you have heard of the phenomenon titled ‘summer melt,’ where low income students who graduate high school with clear college plans either don’t end up matriculating at their intended institution or matriculating at all. The good news? A growing number of practitioners – in districts, schools, and community based organizations around the country – are facing this challenge head on, and designing programmatic interventions to combat summer melt among their students. uAspire has been addressing summer melt for several years, and through our work, identified several affordability-related leverage points in that time frame.
We invite you to join us for a webinar on Reducing Summer Melt: Financial Aid Steps to Success to learn more about which financial aid processes and tasks are critical for students to accomplish in the summer months. uAspire’s overview of these summer activities will have an affordability lens, diving deep on tips and tricks for in the following areas:
  • Addressing gaps in financial aid
  • Securing federal loans accurately and on time
  • Counseling around anticipation, and receipt of the term bill
  • Helping students navigate their college’s financial aid communication
This 75 minute training session is designed for the practitioner who is supporting (or will support) students in the summer, and needs to build their knowledge and expertise around these summer events. This training will not cover how to design an intervention, but rather assure that practitioners have the information and strategies needed to best counsel their students towards successful matriculation.
We look forward to this training, and continuing to address summer melt.
