Gathering Empowering Action Feb21

Join us at our next Gathering Empowering Action!
We're kicking off what we hope will be the start of an ongoing conversation exploring the language used to talk about human trafficking. Come join in the discussion!
This month's topic:
Exploring discomfort with use of the term 'modern day slavery' to describe human trafficking. Are there helpful similarities, major differences that need to be understood, and/or harmful associations we need to avoid?
Using audio & video passages (from Library of Congress' Slave Narratives and Voices from the Days of Slavery, as well as CNN's Freedom Project, PBS and Polaris Project) we'll learn more about the experiences of survivors of human trafficking worldwide and slavery in the US. We'll use these as a prompt for discussion that will hopefully result in a better understanding of the best language to use while advocating for this issue.
Time: Thursday, February 21st @ 7:00
Location: 45 Carleton St, Cambridge, MA 02142, near the Kendal/MIT T stop on the red line. Walk towards the Clover truck (behind the inbound station entrance) and up the stairs on the right side of the street. Room 101.
