Waking Tour Sumner Hill in JP Sept15

Walking Tour of the Sumner Hill Historic District in Jamaica Plain
Saturday, September 15th| 11am
Loring-Greenough House, 12 South Street, Jamaica Plain

Join the Boston Preservation Alliance for a tour of this National Register District led by knowledgeable guides from the Jamaica Plain Historical Society.  View a sumptuous sampling of 19th-century Victorian houses — one of the finest collections of “painted ladies” outside of San Francisco.

The Sumner Hill neighborhood includes an outstanding variety of large single-family residences that were built between 1850 and 1900 and the structures encompass a multitude of architectural styles including Italianate, Second Empire, Victorian Gothic, Stick, Queen Anne, Shingle, and Colonial Revival. Among the structures are the ancestral home of the founder of the Dole Pineapple Company, as well as the homes of progressives who were active as abolitionists and woman suffragists.

This event is free for members of the Alliance and JPHS and $10 for non-members. Space is limited. Please register by September 12th to reserve a spot.

Members and non-members may register securely via Eventbrite: http://sumnerhillwalkingtour.eventbrite.com/
