Offerings at Serlingpa Meditation Center October

TUESDAYS | OCTOBER 18 - NOVEMBER 15 | 7 - 8:30pm
Understanding that we have a choice in how we internally respond to life’s challenges encourages and empowers us to train our mind to deal with difficulties in a healthy way—that helps us learn and grow from our experiences. Through the practice of meditation, we can look at challenging circumstances in our life, re-adjust our perspective on the situation, and practice cultivating an attitude that allows our mind to stay balanced and solution-oriented.

SATURDAY | OCTOBER 22 | 10am - 1:30pm
Due to a misunderstanding of the true nature of things, we perceive ourselves in a state of painful isolation from others and our world. We see our limitations as real and we feel stuck.  But our limitations are not real. In this retreat, we will explore Buddha’s teachings on emptiness: the true nature of reality. Emptiness means that things do not exist in a fixed way outside the mind, but that they exist as mere appearances to mind. Understanding this will naturally free our mind from a sense of limitation and insecurity, and fill us with a sense of joy and immense possibility.

TUESDAYS | 5:45 - 6:15PM
Unwind your mind with this 30 minute meditation class after work. By attending this class, you will develop the skills of meditation, leave behind your internal busyness and stress, enjoy an inner experience of relaxation, and leave for home refreshed. Please check our calendar to find out when this class is being hosted.

1st & 3rd Sunday of the Month | 9:30 - 10:30am
Through meditation, teachings, story-telling, arts & crafts, and other fun activities, this special class is designed to help children & parents share a meaningful and fun family experience, while developing integral minds of happiness such as kindness, patience & generosity. These classes are designed for children ages 5 to 11. We ask that an adult accompany children.

SUNDAYS | 11AM - 12:30PM | ONGOING
Meditations for World Peace is dedicated to the study, meditation and practice of Lamrim – stages of the path to enlightenment – a special set of instructions that includes all the essential teachings of Buddha, structured in a comprehensive way that is easy to understand and put into practice.

Rock Against the TPP Concert Oct 7

The TPP is a legally-binding deal between 12 governments, including the U.S., that was negotiated in total secrecy with hundreds of corporate lobbyists helping draft the text. If ratified, it would be the largest backroom deal of its kind in history, and it poses a grave threat to good paying jobs, the environment, internet freedom, food safety, and our basic democratic process. Rock Against the TPP is a series of large-scale concerts, protests, and teach-ins designed to spark an uprising to stop the TPP and expose the grave threat that it poses to our most basic rights. Through a series of large-scale educational concert events, protests, and teach-ins, we’re reaching huge numbers of people who have never heard of the TPP before, and igniting a mass movement to stop it in its tracks.

Henry Cole is Translating “Language into a Beat”
This Friday, we are excited to host this world renowned percussionist who is transforming the music scene: Henry Cole, a Puerto Rican native, leads Villa Locura with his wide musical range, grace, and sheer power behind the drum kit. Cole bridges the traditional with the contemporary, combining various musical influences - Puerto Rican folklore, funk and R&B, jazz and Afro-Caribbean rhythms - to create his own, unique genre. We sat down with Cole to talk about the creative process behind this explosive fusion, you can read it here.
